Access to quality hearing care and education is essential for individuals with hearing loss to thrive. For nearly 50 years, The TPA Hearing Trust has been dedicated to fostering hearing inclusion, providing financial assistance, and advocating for accessibility. As part of this ongoing mission, the organization has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) to support its audiological services.
A Commitment to Hearing Accessibility
Founded in 1975 by The Travelers Protective Association of America (TPA), the TPA Hearing Trust provides financial assistance to individuals with hearing loss. Through grants that help fund hearing aids, cochlear implants, American Sign Language (ASL) classes, and other critical services, the Trust has distributed more than $2.4 million to over 6,100 recipients across the country.
CID, established 110 years ago, has been a leader in helping children with hearing loss develop essential communication skills, including listening, speaking, and reading. With specialized programs designed to empower students academically and socially, CID has remained at the forefront of hearing education.
“This generous grant from the TPA Hearing Trust will directly support our audiological services, empowering children to develop the language and communication skills needed for academic and social success,” said Heather Grantham, PhD, Executive Director of CID. “We are deeply grateful for TPA’s partnership and support of our mission.”
The Power of Partnership
Collaboration between organizations like the TPA Hearing Trust and CID plays a crucial role in making hearing resources more accessible. With the cost of hearing aids and specialized educational services often placing a burden on families, financial assistance can be life-changing for individuals with hearing loss.
Robert Schapp, Chief Administrative Officer of TPA, emphasized the significance of the grant, “By supporting Central Institute for the Deaf, we’re investing in innovative programs that empower individuals with hearing challenges to fully engage in their communities. It’s an honor for the TPA Hearing Trust to contribute to CID’s vital work in creating a more inclusive world where every voice is valued.”
How to Get Involved
The TPA Hearing Trust is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that relies on tax-deductible donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, and other entities. Contributions directly fund grants that help individuals gain access to life-changing hearing resources.
For those in need of assistance, the TPA Hearing Trust reviews applications on a monthly basis.
