Barbara Bass, president of Halifax County Historical Society, was the speaker at the monthly meeting of South Boston Post D, Travelers Protective Association. She presented a program about “Crossing of the Dan” that happened exactly 243 years ago. The failure for Lord Charles Cornwallis troops to cross the Dan River in Halifax County was a major setback for the British Army that led to their defeat at Yorktown. Welcoming Bass are Gary Newcomb, president of the South Boston TPA Post D (left), and Carlyle Wimbish, vice president of the TPA Virginia Division.
