Grants Benefiting Recipients in 10 States Range from $300 to $1,000
The TPA Hearing Trust, established by The Travelers Protective Association of America (TPA) in 1975, proudly awarded 10 grants totaling $6,850 during the second quarter of 2024 to individuals experiencing total or partial hearing loss. These grants, ranging from $300 to $1,000, aim to provide vital resources to help recipients achieve their full potential.
“We are dedicated to our mission to champion hearing inclusion through financial assistance and advocacy,” said Robert Schapp, Chief Administrative Officer of TPA. “Through our Hearing Trust program, we’re empowered to regularly put this mission into action. We’re honored to have a role in creating a world where everyone thrives regardless of hearing abilities.”
Recipients will use the grants for items such as hearing aids, American Sign Language classes, and cochlear implants. Grant recipients during second quarter are as young as 3 years old and up to 70 years old, and live across the United States including:
- Vincent, 3, Columbus, NE: ASL Classes and a bedside alarm
- Kiernan, 10, Fishers, IN: Replace Cochlear Implant sound processors
- Celena, 28, Chadbourn, NC: Hearing aids
- Ginger, 46, Rexburg, ID: Hearing aids
- Joy, 58, Houston, MS: Cochlear Implant surgery
- Kim, 59, Port Orchard, WA: Hearing aids
- Billy, 60, Obion, TN: Hearing aids
- Dana, 70, Littleton, ME: Hearing aids
To date, the Trust has allocated more than $2.4 million to approximately 6,100 recipients throughout its history. Individuals and families affected by deafness or hearing loss can apply for aid through the TPA Hearing Trust by visiting TPA’s website. Applications must be submitted by the end of each quarter: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. Grants are awarded based on need, as determined by the Trustees.
Past recipients have used funds for hearing aids, hearing retention devices, cochlear implant surgery, transportation expenses, tuition, laptops for education, interpreters, medical services, and service dogs.
